UFC 162 Preview

Mark Munoz VS Tim Boetsch

The battle of the 'ALMOST THERE' contenders. Tim's recent record is extremely impressive. However to go over it with a fine comb, you can find flaws. His outstanding comeback against Yushin Okami was ultra amazing, however he was well beaten for 2 rounds, Okami lacked the cardio to hold Tim down in the 3rd and all it took was for one decent right hook to end Okami's night. His next fight against the very well respected Hector Lombard, came as a suprise to many, people thought Hector was the next big thing and Tim controlled the fight for the majority. Again I think he got lucky on the day, I guess you could say Hector had an adrenaline dump, being his first fight in the octagon. His last fight was a loss to Costa Phillipou in which he sustained an injury and eventually lost. I don't think his striking or ground game is up to this level of competition. Mark Munoz is a guy who's last fight was against the No.1 contender. Mark was on the cusp of a title shot and was beaten by a guy who is THE next big thing. A freaky elbow ended his night. But underestimate this guy at your own peril, his wrestling is top notch and his vicious ground and pound will send you home a sight for sore eyes.
Who Wins
Mark Munoz by Unanimous Decision

Cub Swanson VS Denis Siver

The second bout on the card, is an interesting fight. Siver a tried and true kickboxer, is a huge challenge at featherweight, given his long stint in the UFC lightweight division, will come come at Cub with very solid stand-up and highlight reel spinning kicks. Siver's lightning quick kicks are what Cub needs to watch out for, he's a compact guy with lots of muscle and throws each kick with intent to hurt. Siver's record of 2-0 at featherweight only further shows his danger at 145lbs. Cub is every chance in this fight, he has wins over Ross Pearson, Charles Oliveira and Dustin Poirier in his last 3 outings, and given his enjoyment of a good old fashioned brawl I can't see it going the distance. I think Cub should be trying to take Denis down, but he won't, he'll stand and bang and I think ultimately will get the TKO. His strikes aren't as technically correct as what Siver's are, but he hits from different angles, and works inside his range very well.
Who Wins
Cub Swanson by TKO 2nd round

Tim Kennedy VS Roger Gracie

Two former Strikeforce contenders battle it out in this one to see who will make the cut in the worlds premier MMA organization. Having the surname Gracie strikes fear into anyone thinking of going to the ground. Tim would be wise not to go there, Roger the grandson of Carlos Gracie holds a second degree black belt in BJJ and is a multiple world champion in the art. He has wins over former UFC fighters Kevin Randelmann and Keith Jardine and his only professional MMA loss came at the hands of King Mo. Don't expect to see him stand. 5 of his 6 wins have come via submission. Tim's advantage in this one will be his cardio, he needs to stuff every take down, and make Roger pay on the feet. His only losses in the last 3 years have been to Ronaldo Souza and Luke Rockhold, so this guy is up there.
Who Wins
Roger Gracie via Submission (Americana) Round 1
