UFC 164 Main Event Benson Henderson Vs Anthony Pettis

The highlight reel clip combat fans across the world have seen. Anthony Pettis 'ninja' kick! stepping of the fence and landing flush on the chin of Benson Henderson, it is the clear image cemented in the minds of all going into the main event tonight.

Along with the UFC Lightweight Gold up for grabs, revenge & retribution came in all ways starting from the echoing boo's from the Pettis favored home crowd.
Pushing forward Henderson took Pettis to the cage looking for a single leg takedown, with a clear plan to eliminate the legs of the flashy Pettis.

Clinch work from Henderson followed by strong knees had the champ on route to play out a well structured game plan,
until Pettis flourished with strong kicks to the ribs.

Henderson caught  another flashy kick from pettis which took the fight to the mat.
A phew seconds of hustle and bustle the Jui Jitsu black belt Pettis slipped in a lightning quick arm bar, Henderson's defensive positioning was perfect but with arms pointing in all directions, Pettis broke the hold (and Hendersons arm) sending a hush over the crowd as there was no clear tap from Henderson. Herb Dean (ref) stepped in signaling the end of the fight.

A verbal submission from Benson Henderson was the awnser to the mystery, stating the end of the fight.

Crowning the NEW UFC Lightweight champion Anthony Pettis!

UFC 164 Co Main Event Frank Mir Vs Josh Barnett

2 Former UFC heavyweight champions meet in a battle of veteran trying to reclaim their top ranks in the division.

Returning to the UFC John Barnett is welcomed by the dangerous Frank Mir.
Opening up no touch of the gloves gave clear indication a strong desire to finish each other of was a high priority.

Strong strikes and efficient knees from Barnett had Mir against the cage struggling to keep the beast Barnett at bay as he continued to land strong elbows, executing a brutal knee as Mir's head became that of a bobble doll as he dropped to the mat.
Finishing it up early in the first, Mir snapped back up claiming to the ref he was fine and creating mixed reactions from the crowd.

A second and third replay of the finish clearly shows Mir snapping out of this earth realm and proving why this sport can be on top of 'fighter safety'. The right stoppage.

Josh Barnett by TKO round 1

UFC 164 Chad Mendes Vs Clay Guida

A bout fans fighters and hierarchy of the UFC have all glanced over, that looks incredible on paper looked to deliver from Mr Buffers announcement.
Starting off at a rapid pace as expected, Guida bounced into his reputation, cutting in an out to land the 1 in 3 jab.
Mendes defended two attempted takedowns before attempting 1 of his own which gave him the opportunity to lock in a power guillotine, a slithering Guida got back to his feet to settle the nerves of an adrenaline filled 1st.

Round 2 opened with a extravagant Guida putting the fight on his terms, while Mendes lurked cunningly to land a bomb or follow through with a double leg.
Successful sprawls from Mendes developed confidence and gained control of Guida's back  before letting him to his feet with a perfectly timed knee on the way up.
Talented fighters of much the same expectation carefully landed significant strikes to close out the round.

A noticeably rejuvenated Mendes strolled into Round 3 allowing Guida to walk into devastating left hooks which put Guida to the mat, the ever evolving Mendes capitalized on the situation following up with strong combination to become the first fighter to stop Clay Guida.

With 4 Straight finishes, a strong CV for a rematch with champion Jose Aldo is looking ominously close.

Chad Mendes by TKO round 3

UFC 164 Eric Koch Vs Dustin Poirier

Top ten featherweights started things of the Main Card, an incredible first minute produced a strong striking game and excellent offensive and defensive submission work.
Poirier stumbling Koch with precise striking,  sending a staggered Koch to the ground, from there  Koch continuously looked to lock in the triangle.
Coming back to their feet the development of poirier displayed a little more sending Koch to the mat again ending out the round in trying to finish with his signature d'arce choke.

Round 2 had a mirrored feeling to round 1, a high impact attack from Poirier, controlling the game on the mat from full mount to clinching against the cage.
Koch continually weathered the storm however could not find a spark to get attack going.

Round 3 showed battered Koch having a battle of the mind as he sought to swing the bout into his favour.
Continuous octagon controlled from Poirier, having Koch on the back foot for the first phew minutes.
Koch finally found openings in Poirier taking him down and landing strong elbows, taking his back and rolling Poirier into a extremely dangerous position, the enemy of time would be against Koch along with fatigue, finishing the bout.

A Unanimous Decision win to Dustin Poirier.

UFC 164 Brandon Vera Vs Ben Rothwell

In a return to his original division Brandon Vera is welcomed back by BIG Ben Rothwell.
A feeling out process from the giants started it off with a hand full of engaging strickes creating a an 'awe' inspiring affect from the crowd with the feeling some 1 was going to sleep in this 1.
Circling well Rothwell kept tight closed fists, Vera had strong cardio landing clean an jerk to the jaw of big Ben without hesitation to the pressure of Rothwell.

Round 2 first glimpse statements where Vera's cardio advantage would soon come in to play,
Initially wasn't the case as Rothwell slugged Vera against the fence mid way through the round.
Landing the occasional strike with very phew combinations was enough to produce a one sided view for big Ben.

Round 3 gave extra evidence that a speed advantage was ineffective for Vera, with his power unable to make a strong impact on Rothwell.
Rothwell found elusive rythm pacing down on Vera 2 minutes into the 3rd attacking at worlds end with a flury of lefts and right, a final BIG knee sending Vera to cover up into a shell with herb dean intervening.

Ben Rothwell by TKO round 3

UFC 164 Prelims Wrist Wrap Up

Chico Camus Vs Kyung Ho Kang

UFC Prelims on Fox Sports 1 Kicked of with middle tier bantamweights, homegrown favorite Milwaukee's C Camus against as South Korean prospect Ho Kang
Opening with a rapid pace it was Kang who controlled the first grinding Camus on the mat for the majority of 5 minutes.
With a hometown energy behind him Camus took things in to his leather fists and rallied back to a well rounded 2nd and 3rd to give his crowd the possibility of a win.
Local judges + Local Fighter =.

Camus by Unanimous Decision.

Pascal Krauss Vs Hyun Gyu Lim
Both men came out to this looking for a strong finish, Krauss showing Precision landing well early however a low guard led to a quick demise as Lim's power proved the winner with a barrage of strikes forcing the stoppage mid way of round 1.

Hyun Guy Lim by TKO Round 1.

Louis Gaudinot Vs Tim Elliot
The always energetic flyweights was the 3rd televized fight on Fox Sports. Both top ten fighters looking to build momentum with a second consecutive win.
From the bell it was the physical dominance from the bigger Elliot pressing forward and putting Gaundinot on his back.
Continuing into the 2nd and 3rd was a further punishment from Elliot as Gaundinot's arsenal of speed was deemed useless with having to work from his back.

Tim Elliot by Unanimous Decision.

Jamie Warner Vs Gleison Tibau.
The premier preliminary, dangerous lightweights Warner and Tibau put together a real war!
A furious first round from muscle machine Tibau slung Varner around dominating in the clinch and controlling the ground for much of the first 2 rounds.
Coming into the 3rd a heavy hearted Varner and a heavy gassed Tibau created a change of momentum as Varner put everything he had left knowing he was down 2 rounds into putting the heat on Tibau landing with technical strickes and closing out to the bout in half guard.

The resurge of the 3rd wasn't enough for Varner.

Gleison Tibau by Unanimous Decision.

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie

3 Aussies, one night, the biggest MMA organization in the world. No, not a dream its happening! This Thursday morning, Ben Alloway, Dylan Andrews and TUF smashes winner Robert Whittaker all fight on the UFC's, Fight Night Condit vs Kampann 2 in Indianapolous.
For TUF winner Whittaker this is a real chance to show he truly is a rising star. Actually the truth of it is, we all know he is a rising star its a matter of when he makes a significant impact on the stacked Welterweight division. He faces UFC veteran Court McGee, who is also a TUF winner, and this is definitely his toughest fight yet. Rob has serious knockout power in his hands and his wrestling strengths are probably not yet recognised  for being as good as they are. He is the underdog coming into the bout, but all Aussies love the underdog tag, that's when we bite hardest!
Dylan 'The Villain' Andrews was also a competitor on The Ultimate Fighter, only his exit from the series came at the hands of the most dominant contestant the show has produced. Dylan gained admirers from all around the globe by requesting to face Uriah Hall, in the semi finals of the series, and his determination and heart in the fight were praised by the likes of UFC president Dana White. His kicked off his UFC career with a knockout of Jimmy Quinlan. This week he comes up against Papy Abedi, who is coming off a victory late last year, but probably needs this victory to stay on the books with the UFC. Andrews, who is originally from New Zealand, will once again be looking for the knockout victory and his heavy hands should provide us with some action!
Benny 'Blanco' or 'Aussie Gangster' Alloway, gets another chance to prove himself after a unanimous decision loss to Ryan LaFlare in Sweden last year. Ben entered his last fight with a leg injury that hampered his preparations, but his training this time around looks to have him primed and ready for a W against Zak Cummings. Training with Marc Fiore, legendary trainer of hall of famer Matt Hughes, will have stepped up Benny's wrestling skills and like most Aussies the power in the hands comes naturally, so get amped. 'Blanco' is back! He has one knockout victory to his name already and a determined Ben will be adding yet another tick to the winning column come this Thursday.
From MMAAus all the best to the boys this week! The country is behind you! Go AUSSIE!

AFC 6 in Review

Well what an amazing night! Right from the first fight, with Joel Fisher showing off his skills to romp to a unanimous decision victory, all the way through to the lightweight title match with Daniel 'Hangman' Hooker retaining his title by TKO, this night had it all. The moment you walked into the room , there was a buzz in the air. People all around dressed in their favorite fighters walkout tops, deep in discussion about how 'their' man would be triumphant on such a big occasion. Sure some of these people would be going home disappointed the night hadn't gone as planned, but for the people not affiliated to anyone, what a perfect example of what this sport can deliver. Jake 'The Celtic Kid' Matthews wins by rear naked choke, Corey 'Major' Nelson wins by doctor stoppage due to vicious ground and pound he inflicted, Daniel Kelly wins by spectacular knockout and crowd favorite Peter 'Bulldog' Davenport wins by knockout. Any way a fight could be won was on display tonight. The skills that these above mention possess can not be underestimated. Right here, right now MMA is only in its infant stage. The potential we have in our own backyard is mind blowing and I haven't even begun to talk about 'Ruthless' Robert Lisita. Ladies and Gentlemen be prepared, this guy is going to blow up in a big way! As our ring announcer declared at the end of his fight, "these are the best featherweights in the southern hemisphere", not a truer word spoken. 'Ruthless', defeated an ex teammate of UFC fighters José Aldo and Renan Barao, by way of TKO, with a barrage of punches. At the end of it all none of this could've been possible without the hard work of all the guys at AFC. The Australian Fighting Championships, is so well put together, you could be forgiven for thinking your in Vegas (fight capital of the world) such is the show they put on. Merchandise, supplements, food , beverages and big screens these guys had it all. If you weren't there tonight, don't miss the next one, AFC 7 where the welterweight tournament final will be contested as Corey 'Major' Nelson will fight Jake 'The Celtic Kid' Matthews. More fights will be announced shortly so stay tuned. Wow! What a night it was!

AFC 6 Corey Nelson vs Walber De Barros Review

The third fight of the evening begun with 'Major' Nelson the much more aggressive fighter, his oblique kicks were keeping Walber out of range. Walber intent on shooting for the double leg, did so, but Corey's takedown defence was much too strong. He did however get the takedown eventually and immediately looked for the heel hook submission. Once again though Corey was too strong and got back to his feet. 'Tete' looked tired at the end of the 1st round, it was clearly 'Majors' round. The second was the same, Corey with his side kicks and superior striking was proving to be too much for Walber. 'Tete' however got the takedown again, moving straight towards getting a submission. Nelson reversed him this time and landed some good ground and pound, bang, bang, BANG! A huge elbow that opened up De Barros was landed, he stayed alert, but the ref asked the doctor to inspect the cut. That was it, with blood pouring from just above his right eye, the fight was called and Corey 'Major' Nelson moves on to the AFC Welterweight final.

AFC 6 Jake Matthews vs Dean Purdon Review

Off to a flyer! Both Dean and Jake come out aggressive. Jake lands the bigger blows and gets the fight to the ground. In trying to get it there though he miscalculates his throw and ends up  with Perdon on top of him. Dean starts to look for some big punches from the top, while strangely Jake looks calm underneath. 'The Punisher' with some good transitioning moved to lock in a knee bar, the crowd were brought to their feet as Purdon looked to lock it up, once again though Matthews was calm and collected and waited for his opportunity to escape. He did so. Great work got him to the top position and his ground and pound was very effective. He opened up a cut on Dean's forehead near the end of the round, that gave him an extra edge heading into the second. Both guys still were fresh and this looked like going all the way, superior fitness and technique was really on show tonight. Boom! Dean landed a nice right to Jake, Matthews countered and took the fight back to the mat. He returned to vicious ground and pound, this time from mount, whilst slowly moving his way to finding an arm bar. Dean knew exactly how to defend it though and then stopped a kimura from tearing his arm off, in doing so this time he gave up his back and Jakes brilliant BJJ came into play. He locked in the rear naked choke that 'The Punisher' had to tap out to, or was going to sleep. He did it, 'The Celtic Kid' by Rear Naked Choke in the 2nd

AFC 6 Preview Jake 'The Celtic Kid' Matthews vs Dean 'The Punisher' Purdon

Fight of the Night! Yep, calling it early I know, but just wait and see. There's plenty of hype about Jake and so there should be. The kid, sorry The Celtic Kid is ultra impressive. His transitioning on the ground is so quick its frightening, his jiu jitsu is great and his ground and pound from the top position is awesome! Don't expect to Dean to get caught up in the hype of Jake, in some recent banter between the 2 on youtube, Dean can be seen doing the hula hoop, "I've been training kids games to fight you", he boldly declares. No kid games come Saturday night, 'The Punisher' will be all out attack. Expect to see this head to the mat fairly quickly, where both guys will back their skills. How to pick a winner? Honestly this is too close to call but I'm going to take 'The Celtic Kid' in what will be the show stopping fight. Best of luck to both guys

AFC 6 Preview Corey Nelson vs Walber 'Tete' De Barros

Brace Welterweight Champion, Nitro Welterweight Champion, Corey 'Major' Nelson is back and on the hunt for yet another title. Standing in his way is Brazilian Walber 'Tete'. Walber, who now fights out of Extreme MMA in Melbourne's eastern suburbs, will be as eager as any to get in the ring after he was given a free pass through AFC 5 due to Zein Saliba not making weight and being disqualified. Walber's current record stands at 6-4, with 5 of his 6 victories coming via decision. The BJJ black belt will no doubt be looking to get 'Major' straight to the ground and into his world. Sydney fighter Nelson is one of the most feared welterweights in Australia and he won't be too displeased in seeing the fight go to to the mat either. He's extremely well rounded and his ground control will be hard for Walber to combat, watch out for the vicious ground and pound once Corey moves to side control. 'Major' Nelson should get the W here

UFC FIGHT NIGHT Prelims Wrist Wrap-UP

A preliminary card stocking the cattle to run a  main card, spoke for it self as to why it could have been!

Diego Brandao V Daniel Pineda
If wrist wraps contained adrenalin then Diego Brandao and Daniel Pineda weren't on tight enough at all, kicking things of in explosive fashion, round 1 was all to the credit of Brandao who unloaded more energy to continuously land with charge even with Pineda striving forward emptying his own gas tank. Round 2 the dump had started to come in for Brandao first with Pineda evening the cards up to control the round. Round 3 was a confusion?? was it featherweights or heavyweights in the octagon! Brando landed 5/6 takedowns as two extremely exhausted 145's hung in and hung to each other to grind out the clock.

Brandao Took a hard fought UD Win.

Mike Brown V Steven Siler
With over 50 pro fights between them, WEC veteran Mike Brown had changed his camp and opened his arsenal up to learning new tricks, with solid work on his boxing leading up to facing Steven Siler.
All the hard work of Brown was squashed and the curtain was pulled down just 50 seconds into Round 1,
Brown pushed forward as Siler landed an uppercut that put Brown to the ground, Siler with plenty of experience in the cage loaded up and sent home a right from up high to put brown to sleep.

Siler wins by KO Round 1

Connor McGregor V Max Hollaway
The lights are out in Boston the crowd is erupting not bad for a 2nd appearance in the UFC, Irish prospect Connor McGregor came in with the hype train to face another future star Max Hollaway.
The crowd ovation carried on through out the bout, with round 1 McGregor set the pace that carried through out the fight with a unpredictable creative attack on Hollaway, landing the jab with lead hand along with precise countering.
A gallant Hollaway stood his ground and kept composed among all the hype, getting his attack going was a training camp plan only, he was forced to defend on the ground for  majority of the final 5 - 10 mins.

McGregor battled through a Knee injury to UD Win

Michael McDonald V Brad Pickett
Top 10 ranked bantamweights Michael McDonald and Brad Pickett got set to headline the preliminary card, even though they could easily headline a main card of even a Co-main on PPV.
The first 30 seconds proved exactly why! McDonald got of the blocks dropping Pickett twice with a incredible flurry of lefts and rights, the bombs kept coming for the next minute as Pickett was able to slightly weather the storm not without a phew battle scars.
Round 2 kicked of where 1 left of, both fighters pushing forward with aggression until it went to the ground and McDonald cunningly held on to Pickets arm opening his guard to set an arm triangle after some strong submission defence from Pickett the skills of McDonald proved beneficial as he locked in the Triangle Choke forcing the tap.

McDonald Submits Pickett R2

UFC Fight Night Review Joe Lauzon vs Michael Johnson

2 exciting lightweights to kick us off and it was Michael Johnson who seemed to settle the quicker. He used his jab brilliantly from the beginning keeping Joe out of range, his follow up right cross doing plenty of damage, sending Lauzon to the mat. Joe recovered to survive the first round, but Johnson continually pummeled Joe to easily take the round. Round 2 started at a different pace and Joe worked his way to the clinch only to see Johnson escape. It slowed Michael though and Lauzon was able to work his way into the fight. Big shots from both guys was keeping the crowd on the edge of their seats. Joe was able to again bring Johnson to the clinch but, Michael was able to use his superior strength once again to escape. A much more even round but Michael Johnson was well on top. Johnson started the 3rd again full of beans, great combinations were preventing Joe from mounting any sort of an offence. Halfway through the round and you could tell Lauzon had taken a beating, Johnson had been dominant the whole way through. He cruised through the last part of the fight to unanimous decision victory.

UFC Fight Night Review Mauricio Rua vs Chael Sonnen

Move to the center of the octagon, drop level, and get the double leg takedown was clearly Sonnens plan to start this one. He was successful, but Shogun is well versed on the ground and escaped to get on top. After some scrambling and nice transitions from both guys, Chael was able to gain control on the ground and move to the top position. He landed some really good ground and pound, keeping Rua flat on his back and exhausting him. Shogun did well to hip escape and get to his feet, Sonnen immediately looked to slide his arm under the neck of Shogun. He got it there and pulled guard, it was tight. Rua tried every defence he knew, but there was no choice he had to tap! That's right Chael Sonnen submitted the legendary Shogun Rua! What an amazing performance. If you didn't get to see Chael's speech afterwards as well, we'll try get it up asap. Very funny and entertaining poem, then call out of Wanderlai Silva. Chael Sonnen is Mr. Entertainment

UFC Fight Night Review Alistair Overeem vs Travis Browne

The ever controversial Alistair Overeem returns here against what I think is a future Heavyweight champion in Travis Browne. 'The Reem' looked great on his way to the octagon and started the same. He pressed hard on Travis and backed him up immediately. Alistair landed a couple of good body shots that crippled Browne and Overeem pounced landing great shots. Browne was turtled up by this stage and it looked only a matter of time before Mario Yamasaki would step in. However, some great refereeing allowed Travis to recover and get back to his feet. Travis regained his composure and went BANG! A front kick landing sweetly on Overeem's chin, sent him crashing, two more hammer fists had 'The Reem' out! Travis 'Hapa' Brown, the biggest threat to Velasquez and JDS, is coming!

UFC Fight Night Review Urijah Faber vs Yuri Alcantara

What a start! Yuri got straight to the clinch and threw Urijah to the mat. Straight into mount and Yuri was able to transition to taking Fabers back. Urijah Faber's defence was brilliant and was able to escape and get on top of Yuri. Urijah's ground and pound was nasty, repeatedly landing elbows from guard and taking control of an exciting fight. End round 1 and Faber fought back well, he should get the nod. Back to the mat to begin the second round, once again Faber was able to work to the top position, landing elbows and opening Yuri up. Alcantara really needed to improve position, he was finding no success from guard. After being on the receiving end of some more huge elbows, Yuri worked his way to his feet only to have Urijah take him down again, finishing the round with, yep you guessed it, more big elbows from guard. 2 rounds to zip and Alcantara needs a finish in the 3rd. Yuri's confidence looked shot at the beginning of the 3rd, he was flat footed from the outset and Urijah landed some really clean right hooks. Faber got the takedown yet again. Alcantara finally looked a little more desperate, looking to grab an arm at any opportunity. Urijah Faber's defence was way too good though. Dominant all the way through Urijah Faber got the Unanimous Decision victory

UFC Fight Night Review Matt Brown vs Mike Pyle

Matt Brown has been a real bolter in Welterweight rankings of late and was on the hunt for his 6th straight victory! The fight started with Matt 'The Immortal' on the front foot, cutting off the angles for Pyle, and landing good strikes. BANG!! Fight over! Matt 'The Immortal' Brown landed a great left hook, followed by a right knee that sat Pyle down, 2 more right hand bombs had Mike Pyle fast asleep and Matt Brown eyeing off a potential top 5 opponent or maybe even a title shot!

UFC Fight Night Review Uriah Hall vs John Howard

Uriah Hall. Probably the most hyped Middleweight in the UFC's short history is back after his shock loss to Kelvin Gastellum in The Ultimate Fighter finale. Wow! "Who saw that coming?" Joe Rogan's words exactly what we were all thinking. Uriah went straight into the double leg takedown and held John there for the first minute not really doing any damage. Hall let Doomsday up soon after and immediately started to show his great striking capabilities. Some really nice jabs landed to John's chin kept him outside, but John wasn't to be denied coming straight back at Uriah with a good left hook. A good action packed first round, with Uriah probably getting the nod. Good leg kicks from both guys to begin the 2nd, Doomsday landing the better. Very much back and forth for the majority of the round. When both guys have so much respect for each others power, you can expect to see some very cautious striking like they had served up so far. John was able to get the takedown with a minute to go in the round and it should be 1 round a piece now. The 3rd round was again slow to get going, both very tentatively throwing a random right left combo or front keg kick. A nice knee from Uriah led to John getting the takedown, but Hall was able to work his way up again. Uriah got a takedown of his own, once again however the fight was quickly back on the feet. Ooooohhhhhhh! Doomsday takes Uriah down in the closing seconds and lands a flying right hand! What an exciting way to end the fight. Howard did enough in the end to get the split decision victory in his long awaited return to the Octagon..

Rashad Evans. "as real as it gets"

UFC Lightheavyweight champion.
TUF standout.
Hightlight reel knockout artist.
Buisness man.
Open personality.
Smooth!
The list goes on when speaking of Suga Rashad Evans, the upmost beneficial term would be Mentor!
MmaAus Co-Founder recently had dinner with the former champ (Thanks to the team at Extreme MMA Ringwood)
And gained priceless knowledge along with an experience that will last a life time, recording devices not present here especially when questions about Dana White, UFC, Fighter pay and the Diaz brothers are being thrown around.
Evans who is currently on the final days of his tour downunder in conjuction with JACO clothing one of his sponsors (Personal Brand), and Eveythingmma.com.au  is still looking for the Mick Dundee Australia he an majority of Americans have portrayed in mind, Kangaroos, outback 99% of land, and everyone to draw out an say "this is a knife", even going as far to order Fish n chips from a pub (A huge No no which he was warned after by Mma Aus).
What he has found is a real love for Koalas, the social beverages, the scenery, NRL over AFL (somehow) and Melbourne reigns supreme over Perth.
(Stating he was so lost in the cycle of Perth he became emotionally involved in political issues seen on the daily news, "Oh they really need to fix that come election time")

Diving into the MMA world, Suga sees what many others don't see within the UFC and sports entertainment that selling the fight is what it's all about for the Hierarchy in Las Vegas, the main ingredient in feeding the growth of UFC/MMA.
Relating to his close freind Chael Sonnen, (hard to beleieve i agree) as the perfect example on how he lost to Anderson Silva and within 12 months sold himself perfectly into becoming No.1 Contender in the LHW Division and coach on TUF 17.
Selling the fight is as far as the topic of 'Fighter Pay' went, when asked Suga stood up looked around and handed out a smile'n'grin much the same as when he KO Sean Salmon with a head kick. His expressions enough said!

Rashad was quick to note that  MMA in Australia is unique! with enormous potential, grappling and striking the benefits but failure to have a strong wrestling background is where the cage work needs to be done in order to take the next step of adding the list of Aussie matching it with the worlds elite.

Whatever your conception of Rashad is, it's guarenteed 99% of you have it right on the money he is 'as real as it gets' the man you see inside the cage is the man you get at the dinner table! Excluding the jabs!

Any questions about Rashad/Extreme MMA Ringwood and EverythingMMA.com feel free through comments or Twitter @MmaAus.

UFC REVIEW JOSÉ ALDO vs CHANG SUNG JUNG

José Aldo, perhaps the number 1 pound for pound fighter in the world, put his title on the line against what many people consider the equal most exciting fighter in the featherweight division.
Both fighters started this one slowly, being patient and waiting to counter, a lot of feints were thrown and Aldo typically threw plenty of leg kicks not landing many though. The most exciting part of the round came from Aldo with a spinning wheel kick as it came to an end. José's round.
The Korean Zombie came out in the second a different person, pushing Aldo into backing up and landing good combos. The champ held firm for the rest of the round however, constantly getting the better of the standup and slowing the fast paced Jung right down. Aldo got a big takedown towards the end of the 2nd, holding position and winning the 2nd.
Jung had to get desperate coming into the 3rd, he had to have known he was down 2 rounds to nil, he was disappointing though, Aldo was the aggressor scoring with another big takedown and dominating The Korean Zombie for the majority of the round in that position. Aldo started to look gassed nearing the end of the round and Jung looked the better fighter heading into the championship rounds. Aldo 3 rounds to zip, but Zombie is coming.
Unfortunately Jung's shoulder dislocated early in the 4th and José Aldo charged in and got the TKO victory, an unfortunate end for The Korean Zombie, but Aldo remains the Featherweight champion

UFC 163 REVIEW LYOTO MACHIDA vs PHIL DAVIS

The battle for the next title challenger started with Phil on the front foot landing leg kicks. Lyoto sat back in typical Machida style waiting to counter attack and landed a really good combo that sat Davis on his backside, he followed up with a good knee, but Phil recovered to get the takedown and end the round in top position, 1st round ended being very hard to pick the fighter currently winning. The 2nd round mostly was a stand up chess game, Lyoto without a doubt landed the better strikes, catching Phil with great left hooks and head kicks, Davis again though got the takedown and finished the round on top. 3rd and final and what a back and forth battle, strong stand up from both guys, but this time The Dragon was able to stuff all takedown attempts, he landed the more significant blows. However, the rules for scoring MMA state that you are scored higher for ground control as opposed to significant strikes. Phil Davis got the unanimous but unconvincing decision victory

UFC 163 REVIEW CEZAR FERREIRA vs THIAGO SANTOS

Santos and Ferreira the battle of 2 upcoming Brazilians, started quickly and finished powerfully! Both guys threw with reckless abandonment, but Ferreira was the only one to land. A strong left hook that caught Santos and had him staggering was all that Cezar needed to charge in. He kept throwing left right combos, taking Santos to the mat and quickly locking in a brilliant Guillotine choke that had Thiago tapping in the blink of an eye. A very impressive win from Cezar will have the middleweight division very wary of the well rounded brazilian on the rise!

UFC 163 REVIEW THALES LEITES vs TOM WATSON

This fight promised to be a war, with Leites returning to the octagon after 4 years and Tom 'Kong' Watson wanting to leave an impression on the people that matter at the UFC. Leites, being Brazilian, is highly skilled on the ground and it didn't take long for him to take Watson down, from there he took back mount and landed some great blows , Kong eventually fought his way out of that position to get to his feet. Both guys threw good strikes, but this was Thales' round.
Leites came out in the 2nd landing good strikes, but Watson continued to walk forward, Thales was able to grab a hold of Tom's hips and take him down, again getting back mount. Leites locked in a deep arm bar that looks to have broken Watson's arm, he stayed strong however and was able to survive the round. Thales started the 3rd the stronger, much like the first 2 rounds, landing an awesome left that busted Watson above his right eye. Leites picked off Tom from there, yet again taking him down to back mount, Leites struggled to finish any submission attempts, but was dominant throughout. Getting the unanimous decision victory, 30-27 all around

UFC 163 REVIEW JOHN LINEKER vs JOSÉ MARIA

We started the main card with an exciting bout. John Lineker started out the stronger, taking the center of the octagon and controlling Maria with good strikes, José landed a spinning back fist that rocked Lineker, he followed up with a solid right hook that again sent John's legs wobbly, but John held firm to survive the 1st round. The second started out the same with John controlling the octagon, Lineker landed a nice right hook as Maria buckled at the knees, John jumped all over him getting the TKO victory.

UFC 163 REVIEW VINNY MAGALHAES vs ANTHONY PEROSH

Our very own Aussie, Anthony 'Hippo' Perosh, returned after his disappointing knockout loss to Ryan Jimmo, against world champion BJJ artist Vinny Magalhaes. Hippo, who is a black belt in BJJ as well, didn't need any of those skills in this one. Both guys walked straight at each other and Hippo went BANG! Magalhaes went down pulling Anthony into his guard, from there Perosh unleashed, destroying Vinny with constant right hands, Magalhaes went limp, Mario Yamasaki stepped in and we ERUPTED! 0:14 the official time in the first round. This win guarantees a legend of Australian MMA will get another run in the worlds premier organisation. Congrats Hippo from everyone here at MMAAus!
