AFC 6 Jake Matthews vs Dean Purdon Review

Off to a flyer! Both Dean and Jake come out aggressive. Jake lands the bigger blows and gets the fight to the ground. In trying to get it there though he miscalculates his throw and ends up  with Perdon on top of him. Dean starts to look for some big punches from the top, while strangely Jake looks calm underneath. 'The Punisher' with some good transitioning moved to lock in a knee bar, the crowd were brought to their feet as Purdon looked to lock it up, once again though Matthews was calm and collected and waited for his opportunity to escape. He did so. Great work got him to the top position and his ground and pound was very effective. He opened up a cut on Dean's forehead near the end of the round, that gave him an extra edge heading into the second. Both guys still were fresh and this looked like going all the way, superior fitness and technique was really on show tonight. Boom! Dean landed a nice right to Jake, Matthews countered and took the fight back to the mat. He returned to vicious ground and pound, this time from mount, whilst slowly moving his way to finding an arm bar. Dean knew exactly how to defend it though and then stopped a kimura from tearing his arm off, in doing so this time he gave up his back and Jakes brilliant BJJ came into play. He locked in the rear naked choke that 'The Punisher' had to tap out to, or was going to sleep. He did it, 'The Celtic Kid' by Rear Naked Choke in the 2nd
