Move to the center of the octagon, drop level, and get the double leg takedown was clearly Sonnens plan to start this one. He was successful, but Shogun is well versed on the ground and escaped to get on top. After some scrambling and nice transitions from both guys, Chael was able to gain control on the ground and move to the top position. He landed some really good ground and pound, keeping Rua flat on his back and exhausting him. Shogun did well to hip escape and get to his feet, Sonnen immediately looked to slide his arm under the neck of Shogun. He got it there and pulled guard, it was tight. Rua tried every defence he knew, but there was no choice he had to tap! That's right Chael Sonnen submitted the legendary Shogun Rua! What an amazing performance.
